At Waikino School we work on the idea that if you're not interested, you're not engaged. Simply put, "if we get to choose what we want to do then we really want to do it." Skye
In order to narrow the 22 jobs down to a sensible number we agreed that each of us should have 5 votes. Taking the data from our tally charts we created a graph that showed which jobs were the winners in our vote.
Meet our Scarepegs, these are our mockups, our first ideas.
My scarecrow's name is Ava and she is 18 years old. She is wearing a forest pink, wolly skirt, a purple scarf and a clover flower top. Her favourite food is sandwiches because they are really healthy and because they have a lot of goodness in them. they have got salad inside, she loves that too.
Whe no-one is around my scarecrow sneaks out and grabs some carrots, beetroot, lettuce and tomatoes from the garden. She then sneaks it into sandwiches and eats it!
Her arms move like a little sneaky mouse and her legs move like a princess. She is beautiful.
Her voice sounds like opera, it's very high but it suits her, it's so pretty.
Her best friend in the garden is Emily, they like to play together and make huts in the native trees.
My scarecrow is 52 years old.
He has a bright red scarf, old ripped grey, none sleeved jumper and no shirt of any kind. He wears long trousers with no shoes. He has black hair and a blue coat.
His favourite food is roast wild turkey and his favourite drinks are fresh creek water and woodstock beer.
He has a tattoo of a rams face. His name is Neville.
Neville sneaks into the tavern and steals woodstock beer. he does this when no one is looking, apart from the other scarecrows.
My scarecrow can play chess and he loves to have bets. Neville loves to shoot turkeys in the garden.
He loves jokes and shares then with his friends.
The seniors made us feel very welcome and already they have some great ideas about how Neville, Ava and the others could become part of the 'The secret life of us".
What were the other winning jobs I hear you ask?
Weed, replant and explore the native area.
Plant lots of flowers for the bees and butterflies.
Restore the worm houses.
Explore and revitalise the compost area.
We can't wait to go ahead with these jobs. We not only get to choose the job but we are able to choose HOW and WHAT we learn as we do it. Construction, technology, science...the door is wide open.
