This week we've included some of our writing and weather posters to share with you along with the new song Room 3 introduced at Assembly on Friday, "Life is wonderful" by Jason Mraz.
Since our value focus for the next two weeks is Peacefulness, the seed value held by Riroriro, we've been discussing where and when we find peacefulness. We asked Mr B if we could express our voice through a different writing style. He asked us what we were thinking and we said, "Using cartoon and comic strips" to illustrate our theme. Lily and Liam's Cartoon and comic work has been a helpful model. Liam's 'Puff Puff the fish' strips and Lily's cartoon on Trust are both funny and clever-they bring home the message while making us laugh.
Though it's a challenge to show peacefulness we agreed that we needed to use careful story idea planning and have a clear beginning, middle and end. Some of us felt that it was important to make sure the story held a problem that the characters could solve. Mr B shared the story of the Tiger and the Lion, which is one way two characters that argue could find peacefulness within their own friendship again. We hope to have these cartoons ready for next week's blog and newsletter-it would be cool to have a cartoon in the newsletter.
One thing everyone found is that we feel a sense of peacefulness when we can be alone. Some alone time is good. We also thought that a lot of the things we did when we feel peaceful are very simple, and nothing special, quite ordinary, like sitting on our beds, sitting on the branch of a tree, or listening to a river. We felt that peacefulness and the feeling of being satisfied, happy, go together. Mr B wondered if that feeling could be called 'contentment'. That is a word we will explore next week.
