thank you for all the positive feedback to our staff on our successful Waihi Beach Camp. The children have thrived with the challenges and learning opportunities delivered to them through both Junior and Senior programmes-they have really stood tall and shone. As many of you have reiterated this has been an excellent way to start the year.
I know from the feedback we have received from the Marae, from Surf School and from the Beach Education programme, our children, parents and staff represented the school with excellence-with all these groups noted our organisation, planning, parent support and children's enthusiasm for learning and outstanding behaviour.
A big thank you to all of those people that helped on the camp, but a special mention must go to our awesome staff, for the many extra hours you put into to make this camp run smoothly and be so successful: Thanks to Lauren Bartram (Junior Camp), Carolyn Trebilco (Senior Camp programme afternoon and evenings), Kath Pattillo (Camp Cook), Fennella (Camp Cook/Cleaner) and Julia Ranger (Teacher Aide).
In light of new Health and Safety rules many schools are either opting not to have camps, or bringing in outside support to run and organise activities. This incurs significant cost (anywhere from $900-$1500 for kayaking programmes is just one example.) We are lucky to have a hard working and capable team committed to reducing the cost to families, and parents also willing to give up there time to support programmes and help keep children safe, engaged and encouraging them to meet their challenges and experience success.
I'd like to acknowledge and thank the Marae for opening up and sharing their facilities with us, to Matua Jimmy and Matua Pio for their friendship and support of our camp-I know they want to see Waikino back there again next year! Thanks also to Aidan and Jake at Waihi Surf School for their care and support of our kids (and big kids)-Aidan especially who heavily discounted our lessons to make it possible for our kids to do something special.
Our thanks also to Eden and Max for an outstanding Beach Ed programme given the conditions and fatigue-to Surf Life Saving NZ for also heavily discounting our programme too.
As is the case there are so many people that make Camp successful. I hope I haven't forgot anyone but finally wish to acknowledge our parents again for their support in particular Brad and Emma who sponsored our evening meal and the meat on camp this year-this definitely was enjoyed and helped make our dollar go much further for our kids!
Our children settle back into their normal routines this week, with curriculum built solidly around the camp-with focus on Ko Au, Marae, their roles and responsibilities, our Beach environment, the sea and oceans.
Once again, have a great week everyone and we might see you at our first Assembly back this Friday at 2.15pm in Te Kauri.
nga mihi nui
