Our Place
Waikino School is a rural school, set in Waikino village, in the beautiful Karangahake Gorge , halfway between Waihi and Paeroa. We are a warm, caring community which is committed to providing outstanding educational opportunities for our children, from New Entrants, through to Year 6.
We have a unique school and endeavour to provide a richly engaging education that is heavily embedded in our Enviro school roots. We value our outdoor areas, and utilise our wonderful school environment to provide a real meaning to learning across the curriculum.
Our staff are passionate, highly effective educators who provide amazing learning opportunities for our students.
Our school environment has a range of areas that are always accessible to students such as an orchard, vegetable gardens, chickens, farm paddock, a variety of playground areas, and a native area for reading under the trees or building huts! We are also delighted to include a Bush School programme, as part of our weekly programme for all students attending Waikino School, that takes place in the forest on our school grounds.
We believe passionately in the importance of resilience and personal understanding and as such we encourage students to learn to climb trees, to build huts, to take safe risks that help them to develop as learners and as people.
Technology is used as a tool to demonstrate and personalise our learning.
