LEARNING OVERVIEW

Learning at Waikino School is guided by our strategic plan and is implemented through our learning model and localised curriculum.

LEARNING MODEL

Our approach to learning aligns to the vision of ākonga being agents of their own learning, with the guidance and support from our Learning Coaches.

LOCALISED CURRICULUM

Waikino School utilises a localised curriculum that is a representation of our tangata whenua, and a reflection of our unique surroundings.

We place an emphasis on applying kaitiakitanga in protecting:

TE TAIAO

[The Environment]

Our localised curriculum is a connected learning approach, where core literacy and numeracy components are integrated into various environmental initiatives that our ākonga can engage in.

LEARNING HUBS

Learning Hubs are appropriately named in relation to the journey of Ohinemuri, the awa that flows through the Karangahake gorge.

WAITEKAURI

Waitekauri is the first river that flows past Waikino School and into the Ohinemuri river.

Waitekauri is our junior school learning hub.

WAITAWHETA

Flowing from the Kaimai Ranges, Waitewheta is the next river that flows into Ohinemuri river.

Waitewheta is our middle school learning hub.

WAIHOU

The Ohinemuri river flows into Waihou, the main river of the Hauraki.

Waihou is our senior school learning hub
