TRANSPORT OPTIONS
School Bus Service
A Ministry of Education funded bus service is provided for rural students (within the eligible Waikino School Zone). This service is operated by Murphy Buses. The bus departs from Waihi at 7.30am, and collects students living in the Waitawheta area, dropping them at Waikino School just after 8.00am. In the afternoon the bus leaves Waikino School at 3.30pm, proceeding to drop off students who live in Waitawheta. For further details of the route, please visit the Waikino School office.
Waikino School Van Service
Waikino School offers a van service, for transporting children to and from school. This service is a user-pays service, and is subsidised by sponsorship from local businesses. If you would like to utilise the Waikino school van service for your children, or are interested in sponsoring the school van, please contact the school office to discuss details. Alternatively, you can secure a seat for your child by completing the online booking form below.
The Waikino School van currently offers transfers to and from Waikino School in the morning and the afternoon, with collection points in Waihi, Karangahake and Paeroa. However, we are happy to discuss your personal requirements, and will do our best to accommodate your needs.
The Waikino School van is also used to benefit our students and their learning - enabling us to take part in education opportunities outside of the school premises, such as school excursions and attending sporting events.
AFTERSCHOOL CARE
Waikino School provides our whānau the option of after school care.
THIS IS A USER-PAYS SERVICE
Based on the frequency of use - please refer to the online booking form for further details.
If you would like to secure a spot for your tamariki please read the consent to activities documentation and complete the online booking form below to advise us of your requirements.
$5 per afternoon, if you collect your child by 3.30pm
$10 per afternoon, if you collect your child by 4pm
$15 per afternoon if you collect your child by 5pm.
UNIFORM
Our students learn in a variety of outdoor settings and often get wet and muddy, therefore, for the convenience of our families, students have the option of wearing mufti OR uniform when they attend Waikino School. However, for school excursions and formal events, school uniform may be required, so it is recommended that students have at least one uniform top. These are available for purchase from the school office.
School shirt (quick dry fabric) with school emblem $37 each
Polar Fleece with school emblem $43 each
Older style polo shirts with school emblem (while stocks last) $26 each
When formal uniform is required, student can wear any black pants, shorts, skorts, skirts or leggings of their choice, to accompany their uniform tops.
Hats are compulsory during Term 1 and Term 4 each year. Please ensure your child brings their hat with them each day, or has a designated named hat that can remain at school.

SCHOOL ASSEMBLY
All whānau are welcome to our assemblies which consist of weekly and special assemblies.
WEEKLY ASSEMBLIES
This is where we provide notices relevant for ākonga, introduce new ākonga, and celebrate achievements that have occurred.
SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES
At intervals throughout the year, we hold special assemblies. Special assemblies are an opportunity for our learning hubs to showcase their mahi.

PAYMENTS
Payments to the school can be made my internet banking to our school account. Please use your child's name as a reference, and specify what the payment is for - for example, van, uniform, ICT, netball, soccer etc.

If you are considering Waikino School as an option for your tamariki, we encourage you to come along and meet with our tumuaki.
We provide a tour of the school facilities, see our Learning Hubs in action, and have a chat about how we can best meet the needs of your tamariki.

PRE-SCHOOL TRANSITION VISITS
For a 5 year old starting Waikino School, visits are important in ensuring the smooth transition from home or pre-school to school.
We recommend having three or four school visits in the weeks before your tamariki starts in our new entrant class.
Please Note: We do not have a set day or time for pre-school visits and will do our best to accomodate whānau where we can.
Ideally, the transition visits will take place during the morning, we're we encourage whānau to remain with your tamariki during this time.

SPORTS AND CULTURE
Kapahaka
Waikino School has a strong Kapahaka roopu. All children are welcome to be a part of this. Our kapahaka roopu often represents our school at community events, powhiri, and sometimes performs at our school assembly.
Sports
We encourage our students to participate in a wide variety of sports. Some of the sports our students have the opportunity to take part in include: Swimming, Athletics, Cricket, Softball, Mini-ball, Netball, Basketball, Football, Gymnastics, Tapuwae, BMX, Hockey, Adventure Racing and Touch Rugby.
Music
If your child is interested in music tuition, Aliza is offering private lessons, at Waikino School. These will be held on Thursdays, during the school day. Please contact her directly to book your child in on 021 040 5379 or email on alizaduley@gmail.com
SWIMMING POOL
TERM 4 - TERM 1
Our swimming pool is used on a daily basis during the swimming season.
Learning to swim is an important part of our school curriculum and formal lessons are given every day during the swimming season.
PARENT SPOT
A page that houses all the information and resources from our latest parent workshops and drop in sessions as well as information relating to your child's learning
One-Day Te ngāhere School
Children from other schools or from home-schooling are welcome to come along and join our one day te ngahere ( bush school)
This happens every Thursday during term time from 9am-2:30pm
Cost is $50 per session and once enrolled your child can participate a few times or every Thursday during the term
