WAIHOU
SENIOR SCHOOL LEARNING HUB
LEARNING COACHES
Alex Cooper and Louise Young
Alex has been working with our tamariki through-out their journey from Waitekauri and has built a trusting relationship to support the progress of their learning pathways.
Lou has recently completed her studies and provides our ākonga with fresh learning opportunities.
CLASSDOJO
We encourage our whānau to learn more about what their tamariki are doing within Waitekauri by joining Class Dojo.
Learning Coaches can provide more information on how to access Class Dojo.
Whānau can access Class Dojo either by the website or download the app to their smart phone.
STUDENT DEVICES
Ākonga need to have their device with them daily. These must be fully charged and contained in their own case for protection.
DEVICE SPECIFICATION
We prefer students to have a Chromebook, however, if you are providing other devices- such as a laptop or tablet- then the device needs to have the following specifications to be useable with our suite of tools that students access
Wifi capability.
Minimum 6 hours of battery life.
Minimum screen size of 11 inches.
Ability to capture photos or videos.
Headset for privacy when engaging in work.
Google Chrome.
CHROMEBOOK
We have found that most Acer and ASUS chromebooks tend to be good value for money and a reasonably sturdy design that handles the rigours of school life. However, Lenovo and Samsung chromebooks are also generally good. Regardless of which brand of chromebook you purchase, we recommend investing in a "clamshell" style case. These are great because the device remains protected by the case, even when the student is using it.
TE NGĀHERE BAG
All ākonga will spend time
in the ngāhere each day.
Learning Coaches encourage our whānau to ensure their tamariki have their bush bag at Waikino School every day with wet weather gear and changes of clothes.
HEALTHY KAI
Ākonga are encouraged to manage when they need to eat and drink throughout the day.
LUNCHBOXES
Learning Coaches encourage our whānau to help us work towards fuelling growing bodies and brains with healthy kai in their lunchboxes.
WATER
Across all learning hubs, the only drink allowed at Waikino School is water.
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Waikino School provides opportunities for our ākonga to learn about making healthy eating choices, we encourage our whānau to be part of these experiences.
If whānau are interested please talk to the Learning Coaches.
